GED Testing

About the GED® Test?

The computer-based GED® test has four subjects:
  1. Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA)
  2. Mathematical Reasoning
  3. Science
  4. Social Studies
It is offered in English and Spanish.

How do I register to take the GED®?

Will my previous Series scores remain valid for the new 2014 test series?

No. Scores cannot be combined from different test series. All incomplete 2002 GED test series scores expired on December 31, 2013. If you did not complete your testing, you will need to complete and pass all four exams in the 2014 test series.

How much does it cost?

The GED® exam is made up of 4 subjects, broken into separate exams: Mathematical Reasoning, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science. the cost $36.25 each, for a total of $145.
ESC-20 AEL Program will pay for the cost of the exam if you are enrolled as a student in the Free AEL Program HSE/GED® classes. (see, to register.) FYI- You will be required to go to registration and take a basic assessment and attend class at least 12+ hours before receiving a free voucher.
If an exam failed, the test-taker can retake the exam two times within twelve months of the original failed attempt. After the first three attempts, the test-taker will have to wait an additional 90 days to retake the exam.
ESC-20 AEL Program will not pay for retakes. 
ESC-20 AEL Program will provide Free GED practice test prior to taking the GED Exam.

What does it mean to “pass” the GED® test?

The GED® test will have a passing score of 145 on each test part. Therefore, you will need to reach a score of at least 145 on each part and a total score of 580 across the four-part battery in order to receive your GED® test credential.

The GED® test score levels are:
  • (145-164) – Pass / High School Equivalency
  • (165-174) – GED® College Ready
  • (175-200) – GED® College Ready + Credit

Do I have to take all four exams at one sitting?

No. You can register and pay for one exam at a time.  
The Texas GED® testing program requires all test-takers under the age of 18 to complete additional paperwork to be eligible to schedule your test.
